Ever since I was little I have helped cook and bake. I always helped my mom bake cookies or make dinner. But we often had the same thing, because it was what my mom knew we would eat and that was generally pretty cheap. Since I’ve been married I have learned a lot more. Let’s just say I am a very picky eater. My husband loves almost anything (except popcorn and pizza – two of my favorites) and loves all type of meat. I on the other hand, like chicken, turkey lunch meat, bacon, and sometimes beef. So when it comes to what my husband likes to eat, I have tried new things. On top of that, he is from England, so his taste is different in even other ways than mine. So I’ve been trying to make a different meal every one or two weeks and keeping within our budget. This week I wanted something my husband would like, so I of course hopped on Pinterest (which has saved me many times) and I found a recipe! I’m only going to post ones I will use again. This one, my husband really liked! I count that a success (and trust me, he tells me when it isn’t his favorite).
I used this recipe for cottage/shepherds pie from Life in the Loft-house. My husband is from England, so yes he calls it Cottage Pie (he calls it Shepherds pie when it has lamb). But whatever it is called it was great! We made a 9×13 pan and since there is only 2 of us we will have it twice this week for dinner, and freeze the other half.

Haha, not even close to the picture above, but it was good! The only thing we did different was in step 5. We doubled the flour, broth, and Worcestershire sauce, and tripled the tomato paste. When I called him over for a taste test he told me he wanted it more ‘gravy like’ (a little juicier). So that’s all I did and it did the trick for him! It ended up delicious! So here is a little something to add to our menu. It was cheap and tasted good! Yay for another success! Adding it to my pinterest page Food – made and family approved!
